How to Connect Gmail
Step-by-step guide to connecting a Gmail or Google Workspace account.
Mail Maya connects to Gmail using SMTP with an App Password. Google no longer allows third-party apps to use your normal Gmail password — an App Password is a separate 16-character code generated specifically for Mail Maya.
Before you start
- You need 2-Step Verification enabled on your Google account
- App Passwords are only available when 2-Step Verification is on
Step 1: Generate an App Password
- Go to myaccount.google.com
- Click Security in the left menu
- Under 'How you sign in to Google', click 2-Step Verification
- Scroll to the bottom and click App passwords
- Select 'Mail' as the app, then click Generate
- Copy the 16-character password shown — you will only see it once
Step 2: Connect in Mail Maya
- Go to Email Accounts and click Connect inbox
- Select Gmail / Google Workspace
- Enter your full Gmail address
- Paste the App Password (not your Gmail password)
- Click Test connection — Mail Maya will verify it works
- Set a daily send limit and save
SMTP settings (filled automatically)
- SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
- SMTP Port: 587 (TLS)
- IMAP Host: imap.gmail.com
- IMAP Port: 993 (SSL)
Tip: If you use Google Workspace (paid business Gmail), the steps are identical. Use your Workspace email address and generate the App Password from that account.
Note: Do not use your normal Gmail password. Mail Maya uses SMTP authentication, which requires an App Password. Using the wrong password will cause a connection error.
