Setting Up a Custom Tracking Domain
How to configure a CNAME record for your tracking domain in Mail Maya.
A custom tracking domain is a subdomain on your own domain (e.g. track.yourdomain.com) used to isolate your campaign tracking from your main domain's reputation. It is configured in Mail Maya Settings via a CNAME record.
Why use a custom tracking domain
- Keeps your main domain's reputation separate from outreach activity
- Looks more professional and branded than a generic tracking URL
- Prevents shared tracking domains from affecting your deliverability
Step 1: Choose a subdomain
Pick a subdomain on a domain you own. Common choices are track.yourdomain.com or click.yourdomain.com. Avoid using your primary domain directly.
Step 2: Add the CNAME record
- Go to Settings in the left sidebar
- Find the Custom Tracking Domain section
- Mail Maya will display the CNAME target value to use
- Log in to your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, etc.)
- Add a CNAME record: Name = track (or your chosen subdomain), Value = the target provided by Mail Maya
- Save the DNS record
Step 3: Verify in Mail Maya
After adding the CNAME record, return to Settings and click Verify. DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate — if verification fails immediately, wait an hour and try again.
Tip: Use a domain you own but that is not your primary business domain — for example, a .io version or an outreach-specific domain. This gives you the best of both worlds: a branded tracking domain with no risk to your main domain.
Note: Do not delete the CNAME record after verification. Mail Maya checks it periodically, and removing it will break your tracking domain setup.
