Why Mail Maya Doesn't Track Opens and Clicks
The deliverability reasoning behind removing open and click tracking.
Most email tools insert a 1×1 invisible pixel into every email to detect when it is opened, and rewrite all links to track when they are clicked. Mail Maya deliberately does not do this — and it is one of the biggest reasons Mail Maya emails land in inboxes.
Why tracking pixels hurt you
- Tracking pixels require HTML — plain text emails cannot contain them
- Spam filters specifically scan for tracking pixels as a marker of mass marketing email
- Email clients like Apple Mail and Gmail now block tracking pixels by default, making open rate data unreliable anyway
- Recipients who notice tracking feel their privacy has been violated
Why click tracking hurts you
Link rewriting means every URL in your email gets replaced with a redirect URL through a tracking domain. Spam filters flag these rewritten links — especially from shared tracking domains — as a hallmark of phishing and marketing email.
What to measure instead
The metric that actually matters in cold email is replies. A reply represents a genuine expression of interest from a real human being. Mail Maya shows you reply counts per campaign, which is a far more reliable signal than open rates.
- Reply rate — the only cold email metric that matters
- Bounce rate — indicates list quality
- Campaign volume — how many emails have gone out
Tip: If you want to test whether your subject line is compelling, A/B test it and compare reply rates between the two variants. This gives you real signal, unlike open rates which are increasingly inaccurate.
